armed forces parade

On Friday 20th June, Walk Talk Action held its very first Armed Forces Parade at the WTA Retreat in Fenton Fields — a moving and memorable celebration of community, service, and remembrance…

A day to remember

The event was held in partnership with the Veterans Support Network, the Royal British Legion, the Salvation Army and Regent College.

It brought together veterans, families, dignitaries and locals to mark the occasion with sincerity and gratitude.

Respect and reflection

The day began with a touching remembrance parade led by Major Julian Rowley from the Salvation Army. As part of the ceremony, WTA founder, Teri, laid a wreath in honour of those who gave their lives in service.

This moment of reflection was deeply personal, as we also remembered veterans who struggled after leaving the forces. It was a heartfelt tribute and a reminder that remembrance means keeping their stories alive.

Musician Matthew Aplin, from Penkhull Brass Band, gave a touching performance of The Last Post, bringing a solemn stillness to the crowd.

The Royal British Legion standard, introduced by Chairman Andy Elson and carried by Dennis Castleton, stood tall throughout. A powerful symbol of loyalty, unity and service beyond self.

Sunshine and music

The remembrance was only one part of a vibrant and uplifting day. Attendees listened to live music from local guitarist and singer Simon, while enjoying a BBQ in the sunshine, provided by the Veterans Support Network.

Stalls and activities from Staffordshire Bushcraft CIC, Keele University and Regent College added to the atmosphere. As did the opportunity to connect with local groups and supporters.

Up-and-coming photographer Sam Foster captured the day beautifully, and local filmmaker, Nyasha, was also on site to document the event.

We were also delighted to welcome County Councillor Sean Baggaley, along with many members of the local community, who came out to support this meaningful day.

Recognising our Veterans

We finished off with a Certificate of Appreciation ceremony to thank all the veterans for giving their time, which we sincerely appreciated.

This moment of public thanks was richly deserved.

Gratitude to our volunteers

Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who give their time so generously.

From car park assistants and cooks to behind-the-scenes organisers and labourers. Every contribution made a difference.

As Teri said afterward:

“Today has meant a lot. Without the help of volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to do this. It’s been unbelievable. A scorcher of a day, and one we’ll never forget.”
