Here for you
Walk Talk Action provides help and support for people living in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire who suffer from loneliness.
Here you’ll discover what loneliness is and the difference between being alone and feeling lonely. We’ll also explain the services that WTA offers, which can help with loneliness.
What is loneliness?
What is loneliness?
Loneliness is the mental or emotional discomfort you feel from being alone or feeling like you’re alone. If you’re not getting the social connection you yearn, this can lead to feelings of loneliness.
We all feel lonely occasionally – but people’s perceptions of loneliness are different.
Some people find being alone a lonely experience. Others can be happy without much social interaction.
Being alone vs feeling lonely
Being alone vs feeling lonely
It may sound strange, but being alone doesn’t necessarily mean you are lonely. Being alone is a situation or state – and, therefore, not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of people do, in fact, choose to be alone.
Loneliness, however, is a feeling. And feeling lonely does have negative connotations.
You can be alone and not feel lonely, Conversely, you can be in a group of people and have lots of social interaction, yet still feel lonely.
Social connection and interaction is essential to our long-term health. Hence, prolonged loneliness can affect your mental health and lead to more complex issues such as anxiety or depression.

Our Retreat
Our Retreat
The Walk Talk Action Retreat in Fenpark is a place where some of our programmes and goals come together. It’s a beautiful space where community members can engage in different programmes, access support, meet other people and learn new skills.

Here are just a few of the people who have recently been helped by Walk Talk Action…
Walk, Talk, Action has proven to me that being engaged in our community, supporting each other and connecting together has a huge impact and benefit on people’s life, attitude and outlook/goals.
On a personal note, it’s definitely helped my growth and recognise my own aspirations and plans for the future. Thank you.
I was lucky enough to do Walk Talk Action’s 10-step course, which was absolutely fantastic. Teri called me every week to track my progress, which really encouraged me to work towards my goals.
She also recommended that I go on a course on creative writing & mindfulness with the WEA that inspired me to embark on a diploma as a journal therapist, which I am now in the process of setting up as a business.
Teri is one of the kindest people I know and has an absolute heart of gold. She genuinely loves helping others, is a great listener and has given me so much useful advice. She has boundless enthusiasm and l’ve enjoyed going on walks with her immensely. I know she has made a difference to so many people’s lives and will continue to do so.
I recently finished my 10-step programme with Walk Talk Action. At the start I was a little apprehensive about what i could achieve, but a couple of weeks into the programme, I could see that this was helping me, and allowing me to think outside the box.
I later got the confidence to start up my own charity with 3 friends, hopefully to fill in the shortfall of work done for homeless veterans. All this started with a walk, a talk then help to put it into action.
We joined Walk talk Action shortly after the last lock down, wanting to find a walking group. Our SPLW directed us to Teri.
We went on lots of walks and a couple of days out – one being the canoe day, as I always wanted to have a go but I’m scared of water. So getting into the boat was a big achievement.
We also went to a farm, did a few small chores and walked the horses. Which, again, was amazing – but scary as I’d never done anything like that before.
So if you want to get out and about, make new friends on a walk with a cuppa at the end, then Walk talk action is the place for you.
Thanks Teri. For everything.
