mental health recovery

Trevor is a veteran who wanted to do something he was passionate about and find his purpose in life. WTA helped him to help others…

Trevor was part of the very first veterans 10-Step Programme back in 2020. Although he was very sceptical at first about going ahead with it, he has achieved great things since.

An urge to help others

Trevor is a cheeky chappie with the banter and quick-witted humour to go with it!

Some might describe Trevor’s issues as a midlife crisis. Being unhappy in his previous role, he had a sudden urge to do something different with his life. Something he was passionate about that would give him back his purpose in life.

During the 10-Step Programme we tried out different activities to bring the group out of their comfort zones.

Trevor (and his friend Alex) certainly did that.

They decided to set up their own community interest company (CIC) to help and support the homeless community.

It’s called Veteran’s Connect CIC.

“I recently finished my 10-Step Programme with Walk Talk Action. At the start I was a little apprehensive about what I could achieve, but a couple of weeks into the programme, I could see that this was helping me, and allowing me to think outside the box.

I later got the confidence to start up my own charity with three friends, hopefully to fill in the shortfall of work done for homeless veterans.

All this started with a walk, a talk, then help to put it into action.”

A huge success

Walk Talk Action was able to help Trevor and Alex make invaluable connections. This supported them with their first steps towards achieving their goal.

Today the CIC is not only still going strong but is a huge success.

Moreover, Trevor still volunteers for WTA and talks to new applicants when he is available.

Trevor and Alex, you are an inspiration. We are so very proud and honoured to have been a tiny part in your incredible journey.
