Following the waterside trails
Our walk will begin in woodland close to a charming stretch of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. It’s a beautiful and peaceful waterside setting some of you may recognise from one of our previous visits.
Previously, of course, we explored this landscape at the beginning of Winter.
At this time of year, the experience promises to feel completely different. The sights, sounds and, indeed, scents of the season will be apparent as the landscape bursts into life around us.
Welcome to Summer.
Climbing gently into the forest
Around the halfway point of our circular route, we’ll begin a long but gentle climb along seldom explored woodland trails.
There’ll be plenty of opportunities to appreciate the towering pine trees that guide us steadily towards the summit.
As always, this is a nature walk, not a race. We’ll take our time to absorb the changing scenery as the forest opens up around us.
A walk alive with nature
For the nature lovers among us, this will hopefully be a particularly rewarding morning.
The landscape will be rich with early Summer colour and wildlife. Towering cow parsley. Bright meadow buttercups. And endless patches of red campion lining the route.
We’ll also encounter vibrant green alkanets. Contrary to the name, they’re actually famous for their striking blue flowers, which provide a haven for bees and other pollinators during the warmer months.
The beauty of this part of Staffordshire is that the more we slow down and observe, the more there is to discover.
