Let’s take a moment to reflect on another incredible Summer at Walk Talk Action — one filled with adventure, learning, friendship and moments of pure joy.
Summer 2025 has been every bit as action-packed as we hoped. From the calm of tai chi to the thrill of canoeing. From animal therapy to vibrant festivals. Our community has once again stepped out of the ordinary and into a world of new experiences.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights.
Wellbeing Day Workshop: A first for Walk Talk Action
This summer saw the launch of our very first Wellbeing Day Workshop. It was a blend of self-defence, sound bowls and tai chi.
Each session offered something unique. Relaxation through sound vibrations, the meditative flow of tai chi, and the empowerment of self-defence skills. Participants stepped out of their comfort zones and embraced new challenges together.
The feedback was glowing, and the atmosphere throughout the day was truly uplifting. A huge thank you goes to Wendy and Ian at Café No.1 for the delicious food, as well as all our wonderful facilitators who made the day such a success.
The Big Walk at the Retreat
Our Big Walk around the Walk Talk Action Retreat brought us closer to the beauty on our doorstep in Stoke-on-Trent. The stroll was followed by Walk Leader training. Big thanks to Fenton Café for their warmth and hospitality.
It was inspiring to see participants not only enjoying the walk but also stepping up to take on leadership roles. Thus helping shape future WTA adventures.
Discovering clay at the British Ceramics Biennial
Next up was a trip to the British Ceramics Biennial, where the group learned about rammed earth clay and its use in construction.
We had the chance to see works-in-progress and try out clay-bashing ourselves. And to finish a wonderful day, we had tea and homemade cakes from The Little Vintage Tea Room at Spode Museum.
Thanks to Appetite for making this unique and creative experience possible.
Animal therapy – hands on at the farm
Spending time outdoors and with animals is always a recipe for calm and connection.
This Summer, our group got stuck in with animal therapy at the farm — mucking out donkeys and sheep, sitting with rabbits and guinea pigs, and embracing the unknown.
The simple act of caring for animals and being in nature provided a therapeutic boost. Laughter, teamwork, and sunshine made for a fantastic day.
Canoeing at Harecastle Tunnel
One of the most exciting adventures was canoeing at Harecastle Tunnel. Beginners quickly went from nervous paddles to working as confident teams.
There was certainly a bit of bravery on show, too — standing up in the boats and a few daring jumps. But always plenty of smiles all round.
Special credit goes to the kids – who proved to be expert helpers for the adults!
Kayaking and Canoeing at Brereton Heath
Back by popular demand, our trips to Brereton Heath were a huge hit once again. We tried our hands at kayaking, canoeing, team-building games, and land challenges such as the “spider’s web.”
For some it was their first time on the water – but even those who capsized climbed back in with resilience and determination. By the end of the day, strangers had become friends, and confidence levels had soared.
We’re so grateful to the Oakhanger Project for their partnership, and to everyone who took part for showing such courage and spirit.
A brilliant finale at The Big Feast Festival
To round off the summer, we were treated to a VIP tour of the Big Feast Festival in Hanley town centre, courtesy of Appetite.
The day was filled with unique acts, creativity and laughter. It was the perfect finale to a Summer that has been all about joy and connection.
Reflections on an unforgettable Summer
As we look back, the numbers speak volumes:
- 240 attendees across all activities
- 217 people improved their mental state of mind
- 215 stepped out of their comfort zone
- 220 said they would recommend WTA to others
But beyond the stats are the personal stories. People who came feeling uncertain and left with new friendships, confidence, and a stronger sense of self. For some, just turning up was a huge step forward, and watching that growth has been inspiring.
None of this would be possible without the support of our funders, partners, volunteers and staff. Together, you help us create opportunities that truly change lives.
To everyone who walked, talked, paddled, created, or simply showed up this Summer – thank you. You’ve made Summer 2025 one to remember.
Let’s do it all again next year 😀
