The perfect time to return
During our opening Wilderness Walk of 2026, we made a note to return to Blithfield Walks in Spring. And now the moment has arrived.
As we did in January, we’ll quickly find ourselves heading along beautiful forested trails that wind through a seamless blend of woodland and meadow.
While the diversity of plant life was already clear in Winter, this walk will offer something entirely different.
Nature in full voice
Spring will greet us warmly on this walk. Deciduous trees will guide us along the route with their vibrant new growth that creates fresh habitats for migratory birds returning for the season.
Bring binoculars if you have them and keep them close to hand. We’re highly likely to encounter species such as wood warblers, pied flycatchers, common redstarts, hawfinch and lesser spotted woodpeckers on our travels. Indeed, the constant soundtrack of birdsong will lift the experience.
We’ll also be on the lookout for cinnabar moths, as well as small copper and orange tip butterflies as they begin to reappear across the landscape.
A classic woodland experience
In the latter stages of the walk, we’ll take a moment to appreciate one of the true highlights of the season — woodland floors carpeted with bluebells before they retreat again for another year.
This is a nature walk in every sense. We won’t rush, and we won’t want to. The pace will be steady and relaxed, allowing us to fully absorb the sights, sounds and seasonal changes unfolding around us.
This promises to be one of those unforgettable British woodland experiences and a wonderful way to embrace the arrival of Spring.
