Karen’s world was turned upside down when she lost her Mum during COVID. So she reached out to Walk Talk Action.

When Karen approached WTA, she wanted to get some normality back into her life. She wanted help to be able to go out and socialise and make new friends.

Rediscovering a genuine talent

We soon discovered that Karen is a very talented seamstress. In fact, during lockdown, she handmade Christmas scrubs for the critical care nurses at the Royal Stoke Hospital.

When Karen came out on the walks, she talked about her passion and what she would like to do in the future.

And from there we decided to set goals.

We didn’t just want her to get back into sewing. We wanted to help her set up a small business or shop.

Incredible creations

Karen has most certainly got back into sewing and that amazing talent of hers is shining through.

She makes some wonderful pieces – from memory bears and children’s clothes to laundry bags. She’s even made sun hats for Teri’s children, which they think are fabulous!

“I contacted Teri three years ago after losing my dear Mum in lockdown. It turned my life upside down. I met up with Teri and others for a walk, talk and cuppa.

I was hesitant at first as my confidence had slipped away. But I was soon walking with Teri and the other ladies and gents. We shared stories etc. I thoroughly enjoyed my time out and felt like I had achieved something great.

Afterwards, I realised there is more than me in this situation. I just want to say what a turnaround my life has taken since then. I’m now getting my confidence back – going shopping on my own (something I was scared to do before).

I would recommend Walk Talk Action to anyone who’s struggling in life. This group will help you. And I want to thank the lovely Teri for all her help and compassion.”

Getting back into work

Karen has since started a new job in care. We are so proud of her. There was a time when she never thought she’d be able to face going back to work. So that is an extraordinary achievement.

Well done, Karen. You are a wonderful person with a heart of gold.
