With the summer holidays over for another year, we reflect on an incredible season filled with adventure, new experiences, and building connections…
Summer 2024 at Walk Talk Action has been action packed. We’ve been fortunate enough to host and take part in a variety of activities, giving our community the opportunity to step out of the ordinary and explore something new.
From scenic boat trips to creative art sessions. From canoes to alpacas. It’s been a summer to remember.
Etruria boat trip: Memories along the canal
Our first adventure took us to the picturesque canals of Etruria. We enjoyed a leisurely boat trip and walk, creating lasting memories in partnership with the Canal & River Trust.
Everyone had a fantastic time as we soaked in the peaceful atmosphere along the water. Exactly the kind of experience WTA aims to create.
Creative moments at Wedgwood Museum
Next, we spent a beautiful day at the Wedgwood Museum, in collaboration with Appetite.
Surrounded by artistic inspiration, we unleashed our creative sides with some pottery painting.
At one point, the group was so focused that silence fell over the room—a rare moment in any WTA gathering!
Afterward, we enjoyed a delightful lunch served in fine china. New friendships blossomed and everyone felt at ease in the warm atmosphere.
The feedback we received was heartwarming, and it was wonderful to introduce new faces to this unique experience.
Canoeing at Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve
Brereton Heath provided the backdrop for our second water adventure of Summer 2024.
The group learned new paddling skills under the guidance of expert instructors.
For many, this was their first time canoeing, and by the end of the day, everyone was confidently paddling on their own.
Some even practiced capsizing drills!
The day ended with fun land games, leaving everyone feeling proud and accomplished.
Special thanks to Jonny, Dan, and Graham for their guidance and support throughout the day.
Exploring the Luminarium at Hanley Park
The Luminarium was a highlight for many of us. It offered a unique and immersive experience at Hanley Park.
Despite the rain, we were treated to a vivid exploration of light and architecture.
One member of the group humorously described it as akin to “being inside an intestine.”
The friendly atmosphere and welcoming team, led by Ruby, made the event a standout success.
We even reconnected with some of our 10-Step Programme alumni, adding to the sense of community.
WTA was lucky enough to spend two days at the Luminarium. Check out the photos!
A second trip to Brereton Heath
Due to popular demand, we returned to Brereton Heath for another day on the water.
With a mix of laughter and team-building exercises, this outing gave participants a chance to step out of their comfort zones and try something new.
Even Teri got an unexpected surprise when she capsized for the first time in all her years of canoeing!
But, as always, it was all taken in good spirits, making the day all the more memorable.
Alpaca Trekking in Gnosall
One of the most memorable moments of Summer 2024 was our adventure at Knightley Alpaca Trekking.
Spending time with these adorable animals had a therapeutic effect on the group. Everyone felt calmer and more connected.
It was amazing to see how the alpacas brought out such positive emotions in everyone, transforming the day into something truly special.
Animal therapy continues to be an important part of what we offer at WTA, and this experience proved to be a real hit.
The Big Feast: A spectacular finale in Hanley Town Centre
To wrap up our Summer 2024 adventures, we attended Appetite’s Big Feast in Hanley town centre.
The event was a feast for the senses, with an array of talented acts and performances.
We were treated to a VIP tour, giving our group an exclusive look at the creativity on display.
It was a fitting end to a summer filled with new friendships, laughter, and learning.
Looking back: A Summer of fun and connection
As we look back on all the activities WTA has been fortunate enough to be involved with this summer, w’re filled with gratitude. A huge thank you to all the wonderful people who joined us along the way.
Our mission has always been about more than just walking and talking. It’s about creating experiences that foster connection, build confidence, and help people open new doors in their lives.
Thank you to everyone who participated and made these events possible.
Whether you were paddling a canoe for the first time, exploring new art forms, or just enjoying the simple pleasure of walking with an alpaca, you’ve helped make this summer unforgettable.
Here’s to many more adventures ahead!
